ROCK HILL -- Mr. James Gradon Eldridge, 93, 230 Campsite Road, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at the home of his daughter in Anderson, S.C.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Forest Hills Cemetery, with the Rev. Edward Greene officiating.
A native of Overton County, Tenn., Mr. Eldridge was born, June 8, 1915, a son of the late Joe Wheeler Eldridge and the late Etta Modean Bilbrey Eldridge. He lived the majority of his life in Dayton, Ohio before moving to Charlotte, N.C., and recently with his daughter in Rock Hill. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he was awarded the purple heart and was retired from farming and the restaurant business. He was of the Southern Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Oscar Eldridge and his special friend, Mary Jane Burnette.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda and Michael Lewis of Anderson, S.C., and Annette and Will Greene of Rock Hill; six grandchildren, Margaret Harned of Williamsburg, Va., Trish Miller of Birmingham, Ala., Michael Lewis Jr. of Findlay, Ohio, Marybeth Lewis of Atlanta, Ga., Heath Greene of Columbia, S.C., and Luke Greene of the home; seven great-grandchildren with another one on the way; three brothers, Charles, William and R.D. Eldridge, all of Dayton, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill and other times at the home of Annette and Will Greene, 230 Campsite Road, Rock Hill .
