ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Edna Smith Brakefield, 93, left this world to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center.
Mrs. Brakefield was born in Hudson, N.C., and was the daughter of the late John Henry Smith and Mary Etta Ervin Smith. She was the widow of Harold Jefferson Brakefield.
She worked at Camp Patrick Henry in Virginia during World War II and afterward she worked as executive secretary at the Celanese Corporation. She and her husband had a number of successful businesses in the Rock Hill area. She was active in the cosmetology field, and she was instrumental in establishing the S.C. State Board of Cosmetic Art. She was a successful entrepreneur and businesswoman who enjoyed journalism and was published in local newspapers and magazines. She loved travel and had a great spirit of adventure, a lot of faith in our Lord and was a member of Trinity Bible Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Elaine B. Fewell and husband, Ben; one grandchild, Stan Turner and wife, Nicki Degeneffe; and a number of nieces and nephews and family who loved her very much.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday prior to the graveside service at Greene Funeral Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, S.C.
Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at Grandview Memorial Park - Cherry Road, with the Revs. Matthew James and George Schultz officiating.
