Q. Grant Hutchins Jr.

CHARLOTTE -- Q. Grant Hutchins Jr., of Charlotte, N.C., died Dec. 3, 2008, at home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at the Church of Christ at Gold Hill Road, located at 1055 Gold Hill Road, Fort Mill, S.C. Minister Jeff Trotter will officiate. Visitation with the family will follow the service.

Grant was born Jan. 1, 1944, in Gastonia, N.C., to Quentin Grant Hutchins Sr. and the late Aline Long Hutchins. He was a graduate of Ashley High School in Gastonia and Gaston Technical College. Grant had retired from both Hoechst Celanese and the N.C. Air National Guard, and was employed by Celgard. Grant enjoyed traveling; he loved the mountains of North Carolina, the beaches of South Carolina and cherished time spent with his family. His presence will be sorely missed and his memory will be treasured forever by his wife and family.

Grant is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shirley; son, Christopher and his wife, Angela, of Bristow, Va.; daughter, Shana and her husband, Leibo Raibstein of York, S.C.; six grandchildren Megan, Keagan, Andrew and Christian Hutchins and Alyssa and Evan Raibstein; his father, Quentin Grant Hutchins Sr. of Gastonia; his brother, Daryl Hutchins and wife, Libby, of Gastonia, N.C.; his sister, Cynthia McDonald and her husband, Larry, of Dallas, N.C. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
