NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. -- Mrs. Mary Louise Harper Adams, 85, of Third St., North Wilkesboro died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at her home.
Mrs. Adams was born May 29, 1923, in Thomasville, N.C., to Finley and Clara Dula Harper. Along with being a wonderful seamstress, she was a member of First Baptist Church on Main Street where she served as Mother of the Church and on the Communion and Kitchen Committees. Mrs. Adams served on the North Wilkesboro City Committee and PTA for North Wilkesboro Elementary School. She was a Special Education Teacher at Wilkes Day Care Center, where she retired in 1995. She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Cornelius "Neil" Adams; five sons, Christopher, Cornelius, Hezron, Larry and Russell Adams.
Surviving are three sons, Clayton Adams and special friend, Hazel Lipford of North Wilkesboro, Michael Adams and wife, Valerie, of Columbus, Ohio and Todd Adams of North Wilkesboro; four daughters, Carolyn Adams Petty and husband, Leonard, of North Wilkesboro, Cathy Diane Clayborne of Columbus, Ohio, Reba Renetta Long and special friend, Timothy Alston of North Wilkesboro and Toni Crain and husband, Kenneth, of Catawba, S.C.; a brother, Russell Harper of Beaver Falls, Pa.; a sister, Barbara Fox of Lenoir; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 9, 2008, at First Baptist Church on Main Street, with the Rev. John A. Speaks and Brother Richard Carlton officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
