CHESTER -- Funeral service for Mr. Richard Foster, 63 of 103 Hope St., Chester, S.C., will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at Antioch Baptist Church in Chester, with the Rev Paul Long officiating and Minister Fred Murphy and the Rev. Joseph Neal assisting. Interment service in the church cemetery with military rites. Gore's Funeral Home in Chester is in charge of service.
Mr. Foster departed this life on Sunday morning at Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia, S.C. He was the son of the late President Foster and Mamie Bell Cheatom Foster. He was born on March 18, 1945 in the Cornwell Community of Chester County.
He was in the United States Marine Corp for two years and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Trustee Board, Church Treasure for forty years and other auxiliaries. He was a member of the Finley Alumni Chapter in Chester, Men's Progressive Club, Veteran of Foreign War and the Marine Corp Veteran League. He retired from the Chester County Post Office as superintendent in May of 2008 after 39 years of service. He was a dedicated worker at Gore's Funeral Home from its opening in January 1975 until his death.
Survived by his wife, Ida M. Foster of the home; two sons, Richard Foster Jr. and Norman Foster of Chester; three brothers, Woodrow Foster and Pearl Foster of Patterson, N.J., and Hugh Wylie Foster (Vanessa) of Denville, N.J ; two sisters, Betty Humes(Joe) Morristown, NJ and Leola Foster, Hackensack, N.J.; and three grandchildren, Tyshawn Williams of Charlotte, N.C., Jabori Foster and DeQuavis Foster of Chester.

Viewing will be from noon to 9 p.m. today and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. He will lie in state at church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
