STUARTS DRAFT, Va. -- Harold Richard King, 96, of 144 Mountain Vista Drive, Stuarts Draft, Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Stuarts Draft Retirement Community.
He was born Jan. 15, 1912, in Logan County, Ohio, son of Abraham King and Alice Hartzler King.
He was a lifetime member of the Mennonite Church and a longtime member of Springdale Mennonite Church.
Mr. King was owner and operator of King's Tune-up Spot on Route 340 S. in Waynesboro. While working, he never turned away from a chance to teach others about our Lord and Savior. After retiring in his 80's, he enjoyed fishing and camping. He was an avid reader.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Kent; and his sisters, Edna King Miller and Helen King Yates.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Genevieve M. King; children, D. Wayne King and his wife, Ellen, of Clarksville, Tenn., Carol King Bowers and her husband, Dale, of Rock Hill, S.C., Arnold King and his wife, Diana, of Lyndhurst, Va., and Sue King Brittle and her husband, Sonny, of Richmond, Va.; his grandchildren, Karla King Scordino, Julie King Gredler, Tyson Bowers, Regina Bowers Giles, Jeremy King, Jacob King, Ashton Brittle Freeman; six great-grandchildren; his siblings, Isabelle K. Yoder of Seaford, Va., Sanford A. King of Harrisonburg, Va., Ruth K. Horst and her husband, Luke, of Lititz, Pa., Ruby K. Horst and her husband, Clarence, of Reading, Pa., Esther S. Jones of Goshen, Ind., and Nancy K. Wood and her husband, Hiram, of Waynesboro, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Springdale Mennonite Church. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro, Va.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McDow Funeral Home.
