GASTONIA -- Allie Elizabeth Mitchell, 84, died Dec. 19, 2008, at Brian Center.
Mrs. Mitchell was born Oct. 12,1924, in Hickory Grove, York County, S.C., daughter of the late John Edward and Mary Gordon Mitchell. She graduated from Hickory Grove High School and the Nursing School of Spartanburg General Hospital.
A registered nurse, Mrs. Mitchell practiced private duty care for 50 years. She was a devoted wife and mother, attentive to the needs of her immediate and extended family. In 1963, she and her husband joined Pisgah ARP Church, which has been a primary focus of their lives. She enjoyed traveling and was an avid gardener, sharing camellias, azaleas and other flowers from her diverse flower beds.
Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Edward Mitchell Jr.; and sisters, Dora Norris of Owings, Md., and Mary Carter of Rock Hill, S.C. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Roy Mitchell; daughters, Chere Mitchell of Denver, Colo., and Lynne Mitchell Millar of Melbourne, Australia; and sisters, Ruth Adams of Charlotte and Ellen Brooks and Pearl Gilmore of Gastonia.
A worship service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 23 at Pisgah ARP Church in Gastonia, with the Rev. Richard C. Lewis Jr. and the Rev. Michael J. Basie officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
