SMYRNA -- Lee Dickson Albright, 86, of Smyrna, passed away early Tuesday morning, Dec. 23, 2008, at the Hospice House of Union County in Monroe, N.C., after a brief illness.
Born in Smyrna, on Dec. 13, 1922, to Stanhope and Minnie Dickson, she was one of nine children.
In 1948, she married Thomas Albright of Detroit, Mich. In 1953, they returned to her native home of Smyrna.
Lee was a longstanding member of Divine Saviour Catholic Church in York, where she sang in the choir and was actively involved in the Ladies Altar Society. Instrumental in developing the Pink Ladies Volunteer Association of Divine Saviour Hospital in the early 1970's, she served as its president for four years. She participated in many volunteer organizations, and was well-known for her management of the FISH Thrift Shop in downtown York.
Lee is survived by two sons, Thomas Albright Jr. of Newport Beach, Calif., and Joseph Albright of Rembert, S.C.; two daughters, Linda Chappell of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Mary Ann Wilson of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandsons, five granddaughters, and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Robert Dixon, of Rustburg, Va., and a sister, Edna Spencer, of Gaffney, S.C.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, her son Maurice, and six siblings.
A rosary will be held 6:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 26, at Bratton Funeral Home with visitation to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 27, at Divine Saviour Catholic Church in York. Interment will be at Canaan United Methodist Church Cemetery in Smyrna.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hospice House of Union County, 700 W. Rosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
