ROCK HILL -- Mr. Donald Gibson Derrick, 69, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 269 Flint Hill Road, Fort Mill, S.C., with the Rev. Steve Hogg officiating.
Born in Rock Hill, Mr. Derrick was a son of the late Tillman Winfield Derrick Sr. and Doris Gibson Derrick. He was a U.S. Army veteran, where he was a Captain. Mr. Derrick graduated from Fort Mill High School, where he was a member of the Beta Club and the Glee Club. He played football and drove the school bus. He also graduated from Clemson University, where he was chairman of Student American Institute (IEEE) Electrical Electronics Engineers. He was retired from Kuhlman Electric, as an electrical engineer and salesman. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rock Hill. He was a member of IEEE Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He enjoyed old classic muscle cars, collecting classic model cars, football, NASCAR and working in the yard.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Linda Johnson Derrick; two sons, Alan Bruce Derrick and his wife, Jill Wolfe Derrick, of Atlanta, Ga., and Mark Tillman Derrick of Rock Hill; his brother, Tillman W. "Buddy" Derrick Jr. and his wife, Brenda Rauch Derrick, of West Columbia, S.C.; his niece, Wendy Winfield Derrick of West Columbia; his uncles and aunts, Robert and Lucille Gibson of Clover, S.C., and Nelson and Betty Derrick of Texas; and his brother-in-law, Alton "Johnny" Johnson Jr. of Rock Hill.
The family will receive friends at the home.
