Opal Whitesides Cobb, 95, formerly of McConnells, passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at White Oak Manor.
A native of Griffin, Ga., Mrs. Cobb was born July 27, 1914, a daughter of the late Walter Barron and Nora Lee Whitesides. She was the oldest living member of Olivet Presbyterian Church in McConnells. Mrs. Cobb was preceded in death by her husband, Sloan Douglas Cobb Sr.; three sisters; and two brothers.
Surviving are her sons, Douglas Cobb and wife, Goldean, of McConnells and Michael Cobb and wife, Denise; daughters, Maxine Lowrance and Joanne Marshall and husband, Barnes, all of Rock Hill; brother, Charles O. Whitesides of Mitchell, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Cobb will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road, with the Rev. John M. McArthur officiating.
