Irma Fritton Dickson, 85, of 711 Rocklyn Drive, died Friday, October 30, 2009, at her home in Rock Hill.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2009, at Saint Anne's Catholic Church. Father William Pentis will be officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.
Irma was born May 1, 1924, in Valley Falls, Kan., to George and Barbara Wiesner Fritton. She graduated from Rock Hill High School, class of 1941, and completed continuing education classes at Central Piedmont Community College, Limestone College-Fort Mill Branch, and York Technical College to achieve status of certified professional secretary. She retired as a secretary in the Rock Hill School District administrative office. She previously held position of legal administrative assistant at Homelite-Textron Corporate Office. Her earlier employment was at M. Lowenstein and Sons, where she held positions of senior bookkeeper and executive secretary.
Irma was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, where she was active in ministries of Lector and of Greeter. She was a teacher in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine program and a member of the Parish Council. She was active in St. Martha's study group and gift shop, Wednesday morning Bible study and South Carolina Catholic Cursillo Movement. She was past president of the Colombia Deanery of South Carolina Council of Catholic Women and vice president at the Diocesan level. She also held offices of president and secretary of St. Anne's Women's Auxillary, was a member of the satellite chapter of the National Secretaries Association, and worked as a volunteer at Hospice Care and Piedmont Medical Center.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert L. Dickson of Rock Hill, S.C.; three sons, H. Lindsay Dickson Jr. of Rock Hill, Charles E. Dickson of Ridgeway, S.C., and Gary R. Dickson of Matthews, N.C.; two brothers, Edmund S. Fritton of Baton Rouge, La., and William L. Fritton of Gastonia, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2009, at St. Anne's Catholic Church with visitation to follow from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
