The championship game of the 5th annual Wheels Invitational baseball tournament was called in the last of the fifth because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Rock Hill went into the frame leading 8-2, but scored four runs and beat Ohio's Padua 12-2. The winning run was Michael Hill's sacrifice fly with the bases loaded that scored Alex Wilson from third.
The Beacats, 15-2 and No. 4 in the state in the Class AAAA coaches poll, were making their second-straight appearence in the championship game.
Bearcats pitcher Jesse Brewer was in command, allowing just two hits and striking out eight.
Rock Hill broke a scoreless tie with six runs on six hits and help from a Padua error that could have gotten the Bruins out of the frame without allowing a run. But the error proved costly and was the turning point.
The Bearcats loaded the bases with one out with three straight singles, the first by Luke Werner and the next two infield hits by Brantley Rumford and Alex Wilson.
John Bowers hit a grounder to the infield but the throw to second was bobbled by Padua's shortstop. Werner scored and the bases were still full for Ross Lisee, who sent a pitch deep to right for a triple that cleared the bases.
Lisee was thrown out trying to score on a grounder to second by Micheal Hill. Logan Cribb stepped up with two outs and launched a 2-run homer over the right-field fence for the fifth and sixth runs.
Back-to-back to bat triples by Mitchell Zofkarewer's, who broke up Brewer's no-hitter, and Bob Seda, who scored on a ground-out to first.
Rock Hill got both runs back in the last of the fourth on just one hit, Wilson's infield single. Rumford reached on an error to open the inning and scored on Wilson's hit. An out later, Wilson scored on Lisee's sacrifice fly to center for an 8-2 lead.
Rock Hill third baseman Michael Hill turned in the game's defensive gem in the top of the third.
Padua's Nick Kaszei walked and and moved to second on a wild pitch.
With two outs and two strikes on Bruins' batter Mitchell Zofka, Kaszei got the steal sign. Lisee fired the ball to third to the left of the bag. The ball appeared headed toward the outfield until Hill dove and stabbed it.
Kaszei was waved around third by his coach, but called back. Hill beat Kaszei to the bag and ran him down when he turned toward the plate and made the tag for the third out.
