The Charlotte Knights defeated the Gwinnett Braves 8-2 Sunday in an International League baseball game at Coolray Field. Knights starter Matt Zaleski outdueled Ryne Reynoso for his first win of the season.
Zaleski pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out 6 batters for the Knights, who are now tied with Gwinnett, Norfolk and Durham for first place in the IL South Division. The teams are 2-2.
Dayan Viciedo had a 2-run double in the sixth inning for Charlotte, and C.J. Retherford sealed the victory with a 2-run homer off of right-hander Cory Gearrin.
Reynoso had four strikeouts in five innings for Gwinnett but allowed three earned runs. He held the Knights scoreless for four innings.
Brent Clevlen went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI for Gwinnett.
Charlotte heads to Norfolk, Va., to open a three-game set tonight against the Tides. The Knights then will play their home opener on Thursday night against Gwinnett.
