Clover beats Rock Hill 7-0 in 9th straight win

Three first-half goals helped propel Clover past Rock Hill 7-0 in the first round of the Class AAAA girl's soccer playoffs Monday night at Memorial Stadium.

Clover, ranked No. 6 in the state, ran its winning streak to nine games with a dominating performance in the win over visiting Rock Hill. The Blue Eagles continued to play well as senior Kelsey Hamilton opened the scoring in the 9th minute.

Freshman Samantha Prytulak gave Clover a 2-0 lead 10 minutes later when she scored the first of her two goals. Alissa Pantuosco fired a shot on frame that Bearcats goalkeeper Alisha Vega was able to deflect. The rebound went to Prytulak, who hammered in the ball for the early advantage.

Fellow freshman Harleigh Miller lofted a shot from the edge of the penalty area that seemed to surprise Vega as she was caught too far off her line. The ball floated past the outstretched hands of Vega and into the net for the score.

Unable to find any rhythm on the offensive end of the field, Rock Hill spent the majority of the game hunkered in on defense. The Bearcats did not get off a shot the entire game, while the Blue Eagles had 22 attempts. Rock Hill only crossed the midfield line a half-dozen times in the game, due in large part to the constant offensive onslaught of the Blue Eagles.

Prytulak again happened to be at the right place at the right time in the 55th minute when she added her second score. Leah Hall's right-footed blast bounced off the right post and landed at Prytulak's feet who took a couple touches and rifled the ball into the back of the net.

Rock Hill's defense remained under attack throughout the second half, and Vega made stop after stop to limit the scoring. After making five saves in the first half, Vega was busy through the first 17 minutes of the second as she collected 7 stops.

Shannon Bowman broke through in 63rd-minute and beat Vega on a one-on-one, slipping a shot toward the goal. Rock Hill defender Madison Norman nearly saved the shot but the ball had already rolled over the line to give the Blue Eagles a 5-0 lead.

Pantuosco and Samantha Satterlee added goals in the waning minutes to power the Blue Eagles into the second round.

Clover will play Spartanburg on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Vikings advance to the second round after a 2-1 overtime victory at Wren.
