It appears the Panthers defensive coordinator decision is coming sooner rather than later. But at the moment, it's hard to divine their intentions because they've played it so tight to the vest.
From what I've been able to gather, I'm not sure Jim Haslett is as much of a possibility as some would lead you to believe. He'd love the job, sure. He'd love any coordinator job, and their number is dwindling (five and counting).
The guy who's name hasn't been mentioned much and could be a sleeper here is former Indianapolis DC Ron Meeks. He never got much attention in the shadow of Tony Dungy and that offense, but his units put up solid numbers. They were the league's best scoring defense in 2007, and they've been seventh or better in that category five times since he's held that job. Not too shabby.
Stay tuned, and don't stray far. Because it sounds like a decision will be made soon.
After they get that one done, they'll start hiring position coaches. They need three of those.
