We know why.
After all, it was a year ago this fine afternoon when Panthers QB Jake Delhomme's elbow exploded, taking the Panthers 2007 season with it. It took a few weeks for them to realize just how bad the damage was, or that he'd need Tommy John surgery to fix it.
The amazing part, 365 days later, is that you'd never know anything was wrong with him. In fact, if last season could somehow be scrubbed from the books (John Fox wouldn't mind), you'd never imagine Delhomme was anything other than the sharp-armed veteran he is. Though the Vikings game was a disaster, he's looked as good as ever, considering he was without Steve Smith for two games.
When they fixed his elbow, they cleaned up some other messes in there too, and he's probably got more arm strength today than when he came to Carolina in 2003.
He looks nothing like what folks thought he was going to at this point. I swear, people kept expecting his arm to fly completely off his body at some random juncture this summer, and to their surprise, it never did.
So now we say Happy Anniversary Jake, and there's no one happier to have a year behind him than he is that one.
