On the key Minnesota sack-forced-fumble TD just before the half, RB Nick Goings was supposed to have picked up blitzing CB Antoine Winfield.
Goings said he scanned the field, saw a linebacker inside, was looking his way, and when the linebacker dropped off, ran his pass route. That left Winfield to come clean through to QB Jake Delhomme.
Delhomme said if he'd have had a moment, WR Steve Smith was open for a big play downfield.
That play symbolized a frustrating day for many, as the Panthers gave back some of the ground they had gained with comeback wins the first two weeks.
"You can't keep putting yourself in a hole week after week and expect to climb out of it every time," SS Chris Harris said.
