Apparently, the Panthers have spent some time with strep-carrier Tim Tebow at the Senior Bowl.
Before you ask, it's important to note that they talk to everybody. But the meeting makes sense.
They're looking at quarterbacks. They're going to talk to all of them. If Panthers GM Marty Hurney believes in anything, it's due diligence.
Because of his Bobby Beathard upbringing, Hurney's also a believer in the notion that you can find good quarterbacks without using a high first-round pick.
Hurney's always been willing to overlook slow, or short, or otherwise odd-looking if a guy has specific qualities.
He goes for smart, he goes for leadership, figuring you can work out the other stuff.
I'm not sure Tebow's an NFL quarterback, but 10 years ago I wasn't sure Jake Delhomme was one, and I'm still not completely sold on Matt Moore as a long-term answer.
So getting an up-close look at Tebow's a good idea this time of year.
As long as it's not too close.
