Fort Mill's fourth middle school is preparing to welcome students for the first time. Banks Trail Middle will ring its first bell on Aug. 17.
This school year, just sixth- and seventh-graders will attend. Eighth grade is scheduled to be added the following year. It's part of a district strategy to save money.
Marty Connor, who was principal at the district's former alternative school, will lead Banks Trail.
The campus is opening a year later than originally planned. The school board voted in 2009 to leave the building empty for a year because the district couldn't afford to open it.
