It's Thursday night lights again for still-depleted Rock Hill

The Rock Hill Bearcats are not panicking or ready to abandon ship.

No, it's nothing like that since the Bearcats started 3-0 and have lost their last two games.

And since they played last Saturday instead of Thursday because of strong storm warnings, coach Joe Montgomery said his team had to hunker down more with only three days to get ready for tonight's home game against Ridge View.

Yes, another Thursday night showcase with lots of questions swirling around Rock Hill and how it will do tonight.

The Bearcats welcome back three players, but have to wait until next Friday before five other come back. Because of an after-game scuffle with South Pointe two weeks ago, three Bearcats were suspended a game, and five others for two games.

It turned into a double-whammy for Montgomery and his Bearcats. One of the players still serving suspensions is Kenterius Hinton, who shared time at quarterback with Corey Wessinger, out indefinitely with a concussion he suffered against South Pointe.

In their places, Montgomery will start sophomore Dwayne Cherry, with junior Josh Erby backing him. Both, Montgomery said, will take snaps.

"They are good athletes," Montgomery said of his two fill-ins. "But losing Corey and Kenterius took our drop-back passing game away.

"We miss our two starters, but we have enough players to win. We've had to change the offense, slow it own to suit our people. We competed last week against Blythewood, but three of four plays we didn't make decided the outcome."

The good news for the Bearcats is this is a non-region game. They start region 3-AAAA play next week at Lancaster, so the final five games will help determine if the Bearcats make the playoffs.

Ridge View, also 3-2, beat Lancaster 9-6 last week. Rock Hill lost 19-6 to Blythewood. Going into the game with its regular starters, the Bearcats had scored 115 points, an average of 29 a game.

"All of this stuff that happened, we have to put it behind us and move on," Montgomery said. "Our defense played well last week. We have to make some plays on offense to win.

"We need this one. We need it because it would give us the motivation heading into region play."
