All flights leaving Charlotte grounded due to freezing rain

All flights scheduled to leave Charlotte Douglas International Airport have been grounded due to freezing rain, the airport announced at about 10:15 a.m. Sunday.

Flights are still landing, even though departures are not happening, the airport said.

Up to a tenth of an inch of ice could accumulate during the morning’s freezing rain, the National Weather Service said in its winter weather advisory, which is in effect through noon Sunday.

Drivers should slow down and prepare for slippery roads, the National Weather Service said.

In the afternoon, the weather is expected to warm up enough to end the freezing rain, forecasters said, though rain will continue through about 4 p.m. The high will be 42 degrees.
