Lions Club event benefits Fort Mill scholarship

The first Carolina Motor Madness Car Show helped with the Tega Cay Lions' scholarship fund. Club president Peggy Upchurch and platinum sponsor Kevin Gavagan of American National Insurance gave a $5,000 check to the Foundation for Fort Mill Schools to establish the scholarship.

Executive director Jill Lauber and board members Anne Suite and Bernie Ackerman accepted the check on behalf of the foundation.

Ron Kazel, scholarship committee chair, said the first scholarship award of $2,500 will be given in 2008. Application criteria will be announced. Funds were generated from the March Carolina Motor Madness event, the club's first event.
