Local youth take livestock show honors

The 2007 York County Fall Livestock Show was Sept. 7 and 8 at Triple Creek Farm, 700 Triple Creek Drive, Rock Hill.

It was open to youth in 4-H, FFA and Junior Breed Associations and included shows for beef and dairy cattle, sheep, goats and horses. There were 138 participants showing 223 animals.

York County Council Councilmen Buddy Motz and Joe Cox, York Mayor Eddie Lee, Clover Mayor Donnie Burris and McConnells Town Councilman Bill Covington competed in a milking contest. Covington won last year and again this year.

Local goat showmanship winners were Courtney Petitgout of Chester County and Rebecca Keller of York County. Sheep showmanship winners were Grayson Branch, Bailey Westbrook and Whitney Templeton, all of York County.

Horse showmanship winners were Tammy Steele of Chester County, Courtney Barnett of York County and Ashlyn Bassett of Chester County. Beef showmanship winners were Elizabeth Edmunds, Wesley Edmunds and J.T. Price, all of York County. Dairy showmanship winners were Samantha Adkins and Hannah Canipe, both of York County.

Mark Keith of Smyrna chaired the committee and Mary Miskelly of York has served as secretary-treasurer of the show since it began in 2002.
