Jay Matthews, a Rock Hill High School junior and a member of Boy Scout Troop 132, received his Eagle Scout Award in February at Neely's Creek ARP Church in Rock Hill.

He began his Scouting career as a Tiger Club with Pack 132. Matthews earned his Arrow of Light and is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. He earned 23 merit badges. For his Eagle project, he built an aquatic learning center, which involved more than 100 hours of volunteer work, at Independence Elementary School.

He is the son of Jimmie and Marti Matthews and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Matthews Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. William McWaters. His grandfather, William McWaters, was instrumental in organizing Troop 132 and served as Scoutmaster for 32 years. His uncle, Jimmy McWaters, is the current Scoutmaster.
