Learn about black history on Sunday

The Western York County branch of the NAACP will have its annual black history program at 6 p.m. Sunday at the McCelvey Center theater, 212 E. Jefferson St., York.

This year's program is Dancing Through Times, An African American Legacy. Youth and adults will present African dance and plantation performances from the slave and Harlem Renaissance periods.

Local youth step dancers and members of the Alvin Alley dancers will perform. Touch One Productions, a professional poet group, will curate the event.

Easter events include story time, picnic

The following Easter events are planned:

• The Clover Public Library will have an Easter story time from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Friday at the library, 107 Knox St., Clover. Ages 3 to 7 will hear Easter stories, have an egg hunt and make crafts. To register, call (803) 222-3474.

• India Hook United Methodist Church will have an Easter picnic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, 3300 Mount Gallant Road. Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch, blanket or chair and hard-boiled eggs. Drinks and desserts will be provided. Activities include Easter egg dying, piñata hitting, an Easter bonnet/hat contest and a parade. The event is free and open to the public. For details, call the church at 329-7787.

Covenant church men announce barbecue sale

Covenant Presbyterian Men of the Church will have a smoked pork barbecue sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, 1830 Celanese Road, Rock Hill.

Proceeds go to community needs and church grounds maintenance. Barbecue by the pound costs $8; plates cost $6 and include a half pound of barbecue, beans, slaw and bread; sandwiches cost $6 and includes slaw. For details, call 366-8223.

Finley, Emmett Scott grads plan area meetings

Painters guild plans Easter art project

The Old English Painters Guild will meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Indian Land recreation complex, 8286 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land. This month's project will be an Easter-themed brush holder with artist Martha Crissman.

Habitat resale store has sale this week

The Habitat for Humanity of York County resale store, 110 N. Anderson Road, Rock Hill, will have a 75 percent off sale through Saturday.

The store will close on Saturday and the grand opening of the new store, 825 N. Anderson Road, will be at 1 p.m. April 18.
