Free organ concert Sunday at Trinity

YORK -- David B. Richardson, organist at Trinity United Methodist Church, will give a recital at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church on East Liberty Street.

Richardson will perform works by J.S. Bach, composed or transcribed for organ, on the church's refurbished and renovated Estey.

He has served as Trinity's organist for 15 years and is a graduate of Appalachian State and Winthrop universities.

A reception will be afterward. The concert is free and open to the community.

Trinity recently received the Bishop's 5-Star Award of Excellence. The criteria for the award is to increase Sunday school attendance and enhance the Christian Education ministry, increase membership, have a "new work" that increases growth, emphasis on youth ministries and pay apportionments in full.

The award is given annually by the South Carolina United Methodist Conference.

Oakdale Baptist enrolling children

Oakdale Baptist Church's day-school and after-school programs are now enrolling for the 2007-2008 school year. Both programs are housed at the church on Oakdale Road in Rock Hill.

The day school is enrolling children ages 1 through 4K. The program is from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday and includes activities that correlate to the child's social, emotional, physical and spiritual development along with music, small group activities, nutritional snack and field trips.

Oakdale After School is enrolling children in 5K through seventh grade. The program runs from 2:25 to 6 p.m. daily. Care also is offered on teacher workdays and some holidays. Current schools of service are Oakdale, Belleview, Independence, Lesslie, Finley Road, Ebenezer Avenue elementary schools and Saluda Trail Middle School. Other schools will be considered upon request. The program offers homework assistance, nutritional snack, Bookmobile, recreation activities, Bible exploration and low student-to-counselor ratio.
