Springs Global will lay off 465 workers at the Grace Complex in LancasterCounty to move weaving operations to South America, the company announcedtoday.
The layoffs are expected to be completed early next year, when equipmentthat is being shipped to the South American plants are up and running.
There will be 1,035 employees left at Grace, a plant off S.C. 9, close tothe Chester County line, that processes bedding fabrics and makes sheets andpillowcases.
“It is increasingly difficult to make products competitively in the U.S. dueto severe pricing pressures from Asian competitors, which is why we mustshift more capacity to our low-cost and modern facilities in South America,”Crandall Bowles, co-chairman of Springs Global, said in a statement.
