Chamber to host Tega Cay council forum

The York County Regional Chamber of Commerce's Tega Cay Area Council will host a candidates forum at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeshore Christian Fellowship, 130 Shoreline Parkway, Tega Cay.

Attendees will have an opportunity to hear from candidates vying for two at-large seats on the Tega Cay City Council which will be determined during the Nov. 7 election. The following candidates have been invited and plan to attend the forum: Larry Harper, Ronald Kazel, Ron Kirby, Hope MacBride, and George Sheppard. Questions will be supplied by a panel of the Fort Mill Times, Lake Wylie Pilot, CN2 and WRHI.

The forum is free and open to the public. From 6:15 to 6:45 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to meet the candidates and submit questions for consideration to be asked during the forum. For additional information, please contact Pat Pardue at (803) 324-7500.

First National announces third-quarter earnings

First National Bancshares, the bank holding company for First National Bank of the South, reports record earnings of $1.28 million for the quarter that ended Sept. 30, an increase of 18.2 percent over net income of $1.1 million reported for the same period in 2006.

First National also reported growth in total assets of 37.3 percent, or $156.1 million, to end the quarter at $574.1 million, as compared with total assets of $418 million as of Sept. 30, 2006.

Loans grew by $118.3 million to $458.3 million, an increase of 34.8 percent over total loans on Sept. 30, 2006, of $340 million. Deposits rose by $123.3 million to $453.8 million on Sept. 30, compared with $330.5 million in 2006, or an increase of 37.3 percent, according to a company statement.

Earnings per diluted share for the quarter were $0.24, compared with $0.25 per diluted share for the same period last year. Net income for the quarter, increased by 8.9 percent over the same period in 2006 to $2.9 million or $0.62 per diluted share, as compared to net income of $2.7 million or $0.63 per diluted share for the same period last year.

Late federal tax filing deadline is Monday

The deadline for late federal income tax filing is Monday. The Internal Revenue Service issued a reminder this week that those taxpayers who filed for an extension will need to file by Monday.
