Lake Wylie chamber honors two members

LAKE WYLIE -- The Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce recently honored two members at its annual gala.

Longtime member and chamber chairman Ed Stewart was named Business Person of the Year, while chamber president Susan Bromfield was recognized with the organization's first Milestone Award.

Bromfield and Stewart received their awards for efforts during the past year to secure a new location for the chamber office, as well as a small business development center and visitor center.

Stewart, a Clover native, is funeral director for M.L. Ford & Sons funeral home, where he has been for 14 years. Stewart has been treasurer and board chairman of the chamber for five years. In the past year, he has worked with everything from site plans to the purchase of furniture for the new chamber location. The new M.L. Ford & Sons funeral home location on S.C. 49 in Lake Wylie is expected to open in April.

Bromfield moved to Lake Wylie in the fall of 1986 and began her role with the chamber in 1991. She has been key in organizing or helping organize annual events such as the Splash Dash, the Lake Wylie fireworks display and Lake Wylie boat parade.

Karen Harris named Builder of the Year

The Home Builders Association of York County has named Karen Harris of Harris Construction the 2007 Builder of the Year. The association also awarded Jerry Mozingo of The Elkins Company the Outstanding Service award.

The criteria for the builder award are industry accomplishments, membership involvement/support, civic responsibility and association activity. The service award was established in 2007 and will be named the Jerry Mozingo Outstanding Service Award. It will be given only to an HBA member exhibiting outstanding service and dedication to the association.

RHEDC public meeting to be at noon today

The Rock Hill Economic Development Corporation will hold its regular monthly meeting at noon today. The public meeting will be in Room 373 at City Hall.

Meeting today for Retired Federal Employees

The National Association of Retired Federal Employees will meet today in the pavilion at Cherry Park on Cherry Road in Rock Hill. The covered-dish lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Holiday social tonight for Rock Hill IAAP members

All administrative professionals are invited to a holiday social, sponsored by the Rock Hill Area Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals.

The event will be at 6:30 tonight at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind at 197 Piedmont Boulevard, Suite 202, Rock Hill.

McDonald's global sales rise 8.2 percent

OAK BROOK, Ill. -- McDonald's, the world's No. 1 hamburger chain, said Monday that global same-store sales rose 8.2 percent in November.

U.S. same-store sales rose 4.4 percent, boosted by sales of coffee, breakfast items and Dollar Menu selections.

In Europe, same-store sales grew 10.8 percent, helped by sales of premium burgers and chicken products in Germany, the U.K. and France.
