Citibank operations center in Fort Mill declines to talk about layoffs

FORT MILL -- Citi spokeswoman Shannon Bell declined to say whether the company's 165,000-square-foot Fort Mill operations center will be affected by the corporation's cutbacks.

Citibank announced Monday that it plans to cut 50,000 jobs, the largest layoff announcement since 1993.

When the building opened in Kingsley Industrial Park off Munn Road in November 2005, it housed 800 employees and the company talked of plans to expand to 1,600 by this year.

The center currently has 1,480 employees.
