Valmet Corp., a service and technology supplier for the pulp, paper and energy industries, is expanding its Lancaster County manufacturing facility, creating about 40 new jobs.
Valmet’s manufacturing facility is at 992 Quality Drive in Lancaster. Valmet also has a service office in Aiken.
Lancaster County Chairman Larry McCullough said, “We value Valmet being in the community providing good jobs with good wages and being good corporate citizens.”
The company, based in Espoo, Finland, operates manufacturing and service locations across 30 countries on six continents with 11,000 employees. It has about 1,100 employees in the United States.
The company offers services and technologies covering everything from maintenance outsourcing to mill and plant improvements and spare parts.
Valmet’s net global sales in 2013 were approximately $3.37 billion with its North American sales component comprising around 15 percent of its overall worldwide sales.
The company expects the expansion to be complete by January 2015. Hiring for the new positions began in September.
No state incentives are being offered, according to an S.C. Commerce Department spokesperson.
Valmet has a fee-in-lieu of tax agreement with Lancaster that cuts its property tax rate from 10 percent to 6 percent and keeps the millage rate constant.
A 30-year agreement was passed by the Lancaster County Council in December 2007.
