LANCASTER -- The body of a 51-year-old man was found Thursday in Landsford Canal, authorities said.

Lancaster County Deputy Coroner Chuck Payne said the man's death is being treated as a drowning. Sheriff Johnny Cauthen said no foul play is suspected.

Authorities had not released the man's name late Thursday.

The body was originally noticed by an individual on the Chester County side of Landsford Canal, Payne said.

An autopsy is tentatively planned for today, Payne said. Preliminary results, such as the cause of death, will be available by Monday, he said.

Toxicology results can take more than two weeks, he said.

The discovery of the body marks the second time in less than two weeks that a body has been discovered in a body of water in Lancaster County.

On June 5, the badly decomposed body of 32-year-old Virginia Elaine Adams was found in Waxhaw Creek near the bridge on Riverside Road, about three miles from the York County lines.
