LAKE WYLIE —A York County man found dead Tuesday is believed to have died after being struck by lightning, according to York County officials.
Mitchell Dixon, 36, of 3205 Ferguson Meadow, had stopped to check his mail Tuesday after returning from work and apparently was struck by lightning about 6 p.m. Tuesday, said York County Deputy Coroner Ev Amick.
“The River Hills Emergency Squad responded to 5288 Golden Pond Drive where they found Dixon unconscious and not breathing, Amick said.
Dixon was transported by ambulance to Piedmont Medical Center, where he later died, Amick said. A cause of death was not available and Amick said an autopsy will be completed today.

“A lightning strike stops the heart,” Ev Amick said. “It’s just like getting electrocuted.”
