BP employee shot to death during robbery

Rock Hill police are investigating a fatal shooting during a robbery this morning at the BP store at the corner of India Hook and Celanese Roads, according to Lt. Jerry Waldrop.

The victim has been identified as store employee James E. Marshall III, 69, of Rock Hill, York County Deputy Coroner Johnny Love said. Known as "Pie" and "Ned," Marshall was the son of the late Ed Marshall, who owned and operated Rock Hill's Marshall Oil Co. for more than 50 years.

Love said an autopsy will be performed today.

The shooting happened around 4 a.m. at the store located across from the Northwoods Square shopping plaza.

No one has been arrested, Waldrop said. Video recorded by the store's security camera showed two suspects who wore dark-colored coloring, Waldrop said.

"It would appear they were both male subjects of medium height and build, and they wore some type of disguise over their faces," Waldrop said.
