Armed man robs gas station on Carowinds Blvd.

The Petro Express at 249 Carowinds Blvd. was robbed by an armed man Saturday morning, according to York County Sheriff reports.

The robbery occurred just before 4:30 a.m. A clerk said a man with a dark navy hoodie, a black stocking over his face, black gloves and black pants walked up to the cash register with a handgun and asked for the money, the report states.

The clerk gave the man $102.14 and the suspect exited the store, according to the report. Two other witnesses confirmed the descriptions of the robber. According to the witnesses, the man was last seen walking behind the store towards the Holiday Inn Express.

Jury selected in Greenville hotel fire trial

GREENVILLE -- Jury selection is complete in the trial of a 37-year-old man accused of setting a fire that killed six people in a Greenville hotel more than three years ago.

Six men and six women were selected during a weeklong selection process in the trial of Eric Preston Hans.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Hans, who has pleaded not guilty to arson causing death.

Prosecutors have said Hans set the fire to kill 21-year-old Melba Leshawn Canty and her 15-month-old son.
