Suspect sought in fatal hit-and-run

Police on Sunday were seeking a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a Rock Hill man in the 1400 block of East Main Street early Sunday morning.

Michael Gladden, 47, who had been walking in the roadway near the Kentucky Fried Chicken, Belleview Road and the Belleview Shopping Center, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Rock Hill Police Department report.

The vehicle was traveling south on East Main Street and is believed to be red. It would have damage to the front end, police said.

Police said they received a call about an intoxicated person in the roadway about three minutes before the hit-and-run was reported.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rock Hill Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-409-4321.

Man molested by police officer sues town

SPARTANBURG -- A man who was molested as a child by a Duncan police officer is suing the town and its fire department, claiming both were negligent in the case.

The victim was 12 when he and two other boys were assaulted by former officer Joseph Dale White in 2000 and 2001. The Associated Press usually does not identify victims of sexual assault.

White, 35, was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2003 after admitting to misconduct in office and committing lewd acts on three boys, ages 12 through 16, while on duty.

The victim who is suing said White molested him at the fire department where the boy was a member of the volunteer program.

In his lawsuit, the man claims the molestation should have been obvious to town and fire officials. The lawsuit claims White used the fire department as his base to carry out the sexual abuse.

Duncan town attorney, Andrew Goodson of Fountain Inn, said the lawsuit will be handled through the state Insurance Reserve Fund and would not comment further.
