Assistant principal named at Saluda Trail Middle

Clayton Moton, a science teacher and athletic director at Saluda Trail Middle School, will become an assistant principal at the school in January.

The Rock Hill school board approved Moton's promotion Monday night.

Moton has been at Saluda Trail since 2004. Before that, he taught fifth grade at Belleview Elementary for four years.

Moton will replace John Kirell, who will move to Belleview in January and will become the principal there next school year.

Moton has a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of South Carolina-Spartanburg.

Clerks cited in alcohol, tobacco sales checks

Members of the York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit, in conjunction with the Keystone Substance Abuse Services alcohol enforcement team, cited four York County clerks this week on charges of selling alcohol and tobacco to underage customers.

Catawba and Rock Hill clerks cited:

• Angelia Michelle Cauthen, 39, of G's Country Store at 3881 Lesslie Highway was charged with supplying tobacco to a minor and selling beer to a person under 21, according to police reports from the York County Sheriff's Office.

• Rhuoc Huu Nguyen, 22, of T&M Grocery at 460 Hall Spencer Road was charged with supplying tobacco to a minor.

• Prafulbhai C. Patel, 43, of Quick "C" Exxon at 1308 E. Main St., was charged with selling beer to a person under 21.

• W.M. F. Brown Jr., 64, of Fast Bucks at 5595 S.C. 5 was charged with selling beer to a person under 21 and supplying tobacco to a minor.

According to the clerks' tickets, they will face a Rock Hill judge on Jan. 30.
