A Rock Hill native's high-energy rendition of a holiday classic has landed her band a spot on "The View" on Friday.
Northwestern High School graduate Mary Jane Nichols, 28, is the drummer for a three-girl rock band in New York City. Her band, The Vesties, won a slot on "The View" with its 30-second jingle.
The Vesties sing about the Dodge Caravan and the cast of "The View" to a rock-infused familiar holiday tune, "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."
"It's 30 seconds of us acting silly, and we won," Nichols said.
As part of the Caroling for a Caravan competition, The Vesties were one of three weekly winners of a Dodge Caravan.
During the "The View" segment, taped Wednesday, Nichols said she and her bandmates answered a few questions and then performed their jingle.
"It was kind of scary, but fun," Nichols said. "We got to meet the celebrities on the show Wednesday and Friday, like Randy Jackson."
Nichols, a 1998 Northwestern grad, now lives in New York City, said her father, Alan Nichols, who lives in Rock Hill with his wife, Julia. Nichols has a bachelor's degree from Hamilton College and a master's degree from Pratt Institute.
Nichols has been drumming with The Vesties for more than two years, and her music can be heard on myspace.com and iTunes.
"The View" segment featuring Nichols and her band is scheduled to air at 11 a.m. Friday on ABC.
