Bond set at $75,000 for suspect in Clover killing

YORK -- Bond was set at $75,000 Tuesday for the teen police said fatally stabbed a man during a birthday party in Clover more than a week ago.

Police charged Caleb Preston George, 16, of 3250 New Castle Drive in Rock Hill with murder and possession of a knife during a violent crime in connection to the stabbing death of 21-year-old Jake Randall Miller.

"I am sickened by the thought that bond was set," said Kitty Miller, the victim's mother. "He should not be free while my son is dead."

George must remain at home except to attend school and attorney meetings or receive medical treatment. George, who is prohibited from possessing firearms, must be electronically monitored at his expense.

On Dec. 2, George and Miller attended a party, where both men were drinking, authorities say. Witnesses said the pair argued before George grabbed a knife from a knife block and stabbed Miller in the neck, according a report from the York County Sheriff's Office. Miller died the next day at a Charlotte hospital.

George remained in custody Tuesday at the York County Detention Center.

Man robs downtown convenience store

A masked man with a silver gun robbed a downtown Rock Hill convenience store earlier this week.

No one was injured in the incident, and no arrests have been made, said Lt. Larry Vaughan of the Rock Hill Police Department.

Around 8 p.m. Monday, the man entered the One Stop convenience store at 275 S. Charlotte Ave., according to a police report. Surveillance tape showed the man pointed a gun at the 43-year-old clerk's head before the pair went behind the counter and the man pulled a mask over his face, the report states.

About $250 was placed in a brown paper bag before the man fled the store in the direction of East White Street, according to the report.

The clerk told police the assailant was a black man between 18 and 25. He wore baggy blue jeans with faded front and rear legs as well as a dark doo rag and T-shirt, the report states.

Those with information should call the Rock Hill Police Department at 329-7200.
