COLUMBIA -- Police have arrested a Columbia man who failed to stop for a Richland County sheriff's deputy who suffered a fatal heart attack after chasing him.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department reported that 34-year-old Matthew Denny Hooks, of Jaggers Plaza, was arrested about 11:15 p.m. Friday at the Scottish Inn on Bush River Road.
Hooks has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in Deputy Darral Keith Lane's death, as well as failure to stop for blue lights. He also is wanted by Columbia police on a breach-of-trust charge.
Hooks is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
