Rock Hill Police probe shooting death

Rock Hill Police are investigating their first homicide of 2008 after a woman's body was found Wednesday evening at a local apartment complex.

Amber Schiavone, 22, of Rock Hill died Wednesday from a gunshot wound, York County interim Coroner Sabrina Gast.

Gast declined to say where the woman was shot or how many times. An autopsy is scheduled for this afternoon, she said.

Gast declined to release any other information, citing the ongoing investigation.

No one had been arrested in the shooting, and no one else was hurt during the incident, Lt. Jerry Waldrop of the Rock Hill Police Department said.

Police plan to release more details this morning, Waldrop said.

Police were called to Cherry Grove Apartments at 1061 Hearn St. around 5 p.m., Wednesday when the woman's body was discovered. Hearn Street is about 4 miles from downtown Rock Hill off Cherry Road.

Police have not said if the woman lived at the apartment.

Waldrop would not say whether the weapon used in the shooting had been recovered, citing the ongoing investigation.

2007 saw four homicides in Rock Hill

Last year, Rock Hill Police investigated four homicides, Waldrop said.

On July, 29, Amanda Rea Beaty, 26, was shot several times on the porch of her Cummings Street home.

About a month later, authorities responded to a double-shooting less than three minutes from Beaty's home that claimed the life of James Oneal Boulware, 19, and wounded the mother of his toddler-age child.

On Christmas Eve, police found 39-year-old Clarence Odom laying in the road in front of some downtown Rock Hill condos. Odom died from multiple gunshot wounds, officials said.

Six days later, 31-year-old Robert "Robbie" Melvin Lowder Jr. was shot at an apartment he shared with his father. Lowder, who underwent surgery at Piedmont Medical Center, died Jan. 14.

Anyone with information about Wednesday's shooting should call the Rock Hill Police Department at 329-7200 or CrimeStoppers of York County at 1-877-409-4321.
