Local family mourns man killed by fall

Family and friends today are mourning the death of a Rock Hill man who died from injuries he suffered during a fall at a Charlotte parking garage.

William Brien Wilkerson, 21, of Rock Hill died Saturday from head injuries he sustained in a fall Feb. 3, the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Tuesday. Wilkerson's funeral is scheduled for 3 p.m. today at First ARP Church in Rock Hill.

Around 2:20 a.m. on Feb. 3, Wilkerson fell down a stairwell in the parking deck at 225 E. 6th St. in uptown Charlotte, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police report. A companion called for help, and Wilkerson was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he was hospitalized for two weeks.

The medical examiner ruled his death was accidental and resulted from organ failure caused by severe head injuries suffered during the fall.

Family members declined to comment Tuesday.

Wilkerson, the son of Frank and Cindy Wilkerson of Rock Hill, formerly attended Northwestern High School, according to his obituary. He was employed at R&J Landscaping in Rock Hill and was a member of First ARP Church.
