School bond referendum forums Monday

FORT MILL -- Two public forums sponsored by the Keep Our Schools Strong community committee for the Fort Mill school district's bond referendum will be held Monday at:

• 7 p.m., Baxter YMCA, Fort Mill

• 7 p.m., Tega Cay Golf Club

District officials are asking Fort Mill residents to approve a bond referendum totaling about $96 million on Tuesday. The first ballot question seeks $87.25 million for two new elementary schools and a middle school, plus money to purchase land for more schools in the future. The second question seeks $8.718 million for an additional gym at each of the high schools and stadium seating and concessions at Nation Ford High.

Kindergartners, new first-graders to enroll

FORT MILL -- Kindergarten registration for Fort Mill schoolchildren who will turn 5 years old by Sept. 1 will be March 5 and 6. These dates also can be used to register first-grade students who are new to the district.

State law requires children who turn 5 by Sept. 1 to be enrolled in a public or private kindergarten program.

Fort Mill Township children with last names beginning with A-M may register between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in their attendance area. Children with last names beginning with N-Z may register from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, in their attendance area.

Families that moved into the Orchard Park Elementary attendance area on or after May 25, 2006, will register their children at Riverview Elementary. New families who moved into the Gold Hill Elementary attendance area on or after May 25, 2007, also will register at Riverview Elementary.

Parents are asked to bring their child to registration, along with proof of residency, the child's Social Security card, official birth certificate and a completed S.C. Certificate of Immunization.
