Fort Mill to reveal attendance districts

Fort Mill school officials will unveil student reassignment proposals at a public meeting Monday.

The district is redrawing attendance lines as it prepares to open two new elementary schools in August -- Sugar Creek Elementary off Farm House Road and Pleasant Knoll Elementary off Pleasant Road.

Tonight's meeting at Nation Ford High School kicks off the process in which the public can take part.

Dale Holden, a planning consultant hired by Fort Mill schools to redraw the attendance lines, is expected to present three different reassignment scenarios before taking questions.

Copies of the plans will then be posted in the district office and on the district's Web site.

School officials will take public comments through Oct. 19.

Staff members are scheduled to recommend a plan to the school board at a meeting on Oct. 20.

The community may again offer input through Nov. 2.

The school board is expected to vote on the proposal on Nov. 3.
