Army

• Maj. Bret Nelson Eagle was promoted to his current rank on July 17 at Fort Bliss, Texas. Though he was promoted ahead of his peers, he was medically retired due to a severe spinal cord injury incurred in the line of duty. Eagle is a 2000 graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, Ga., and the U.S. Army Air and Missile Defense Center at Fort Bliss, Texas/White Sands, N.M. Eagle is also a 1995 graduate of Northwestern High School and is the son of Kay S. Eagle of Chester and the late Rickie L. Eagle. He and his wife, Yadira, live in Santa Teresa, Texas, where he is currently attending graduate school at the University of Texas at El Paso.

Marine Corps

• Lance Cpl. Samuel C. Morales, son of Sonia E. Cruz of Rock Hill and Samuel Morales of Haledon, N.J., recently completed a seven-month deployment to Al Anbar province, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terror. Morales is a 2005 graduate of Belleville High School of Belleville, N.J., and joined the Marine Corps in August 2006.

• Reserve Cpl. Jonathan R. Brown, son of Tammy R. and Rick R. Brown of Rock Hill, recently began a seven-month deployment to Al Anbar province, Iraq, in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Brown is a 2004 graduate of Northwestern High School of Rock Hill.

• Mathew R. Meadows, son of Melanie B. and Matthew K. Meadows of Rock Hill, recently enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps under the Delayed Entry Program with Marine Corps Recruiting Station, Columbia.

• Matthew R. Kennington, son of Dana Kennington and D. Kennington, both of Lancaster, recently enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps under the Delayed Entry Program with Marine Corps Recruiting Station, Columbia. Kennington is a 2008 graduate of Buford High School.

• Thomas C. Martin, son of Theresa Vance of Spindale, N.C., and Brian K. Martin of Rock Hill, recently enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps under the Delayed Entry Program with Marine Corps Recruiting Station, Columbia.

• Jarred D. Johnson, son of Marie E. and William Johnson of Lancaster, recently enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps under the Delayed Entry Program with Marine Corps Recruiting Station, Columbia. Johnson is a 2006 graduate of Lancaster High School.

• Pfc. Abraham Reed, son of Joyce Lodge of Fort Mill, recently graduated from the Basic Preservation and Packaging course while assigned as a student to Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Reed is a 2003 graduate of Rock Hill High School and joined the Marine Corps in September 2007.

Navy

• Seaman Apprentice Nicholas O. Purvis, son of Jone E. and William L. Purvis of Lancaster, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

• Travis H. Elliott, son of Zane H. and Drew M. Elliott of Fort Mill, recently enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District, Raleigh, N.C. Elliott will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy's Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill. Elliott is a 2006 graduate of Lancaster High School.

• Reserve Seaman Recruit Malik L. Hasan, son of Zakiyyah L. Neal and Carl W. Harris, both of Fort Mill, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Hasan is a 2006 graduate of Indian Land High School.

• Petty Officer 1st Class Mel Williams, son of Jessie Mobley of Rock Hill and Morris Adams of Jacksonville, Fla., and the 200 sailors aboard the USS Simpson, Mayport, Fla., recently returned from a two-week community relations deployment to Castries, St. Lucia, in the Caribbean. Williams is a 1991 graduate of Rock Hill High School and joined the Navy in August 1991.

• Petty Officer 1st Class Jasmin C. King, son of Martha King of Jamaica, N.Y., and John W. King of Rock Hill, recently reported for duty at Navy Recruiting District New York, East Meadow, N.Y. King is a 1996 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School in Cambria Heights, N.Y., and joined the Navy in September 1996.

• Seaman Apprentice Matthew D. Wilson, son of Tammy K. Collins and Charles D. Wilson, both of Rock Hill, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Wilson is a 2003 graduate of Northwestern High School.

• Seaman Recruit Zachary A. Brewer, son of Laura S. Brewer of Clover and Chris R. Brewer of Huntersville, N.C., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Brewer is a 2007 graduate of Clover High School.
