Chamber to host Fort Mill candidates forum

FORT MILL -- School board and Town Council candidates from Fort Mill and Tega Cay will speak tonight at a forum at the Spratt building on Main Street.

The first portion starts at 7 p.m. with three school board candidates. The second portion starts at 7:30 p.m. with two candidates running for Town Council.

York County Regional Chamber of Commerce board member Rick Jiran of Duke Energy will serve as moderator. The event marks one of the final chances to hear from candidates before the Nov. 4 election.

Another event is planned for Saturday in downtown Fort Mill, where candidates for the York County Council and other local offices are invited to give stump speeches from 10 a.m. to noon at the bandstand in downtown. Move Fort Mill Forward is hosting that event.

Churches to host mobile food pantry

Union Baptist Church and Allison Creek Presbyterian Church will host the Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry at 10:30 a.m. today at Union Baptist Community and Family Life Center on S.C. 274 at Mount Gallant Road in Rock Hill.

The Second Harvest Partners Ministry is sponsored by Providence Presbytery and St. Mary's Catholic Church. Churches are invited to become a part of this ministry by contacting Brother David Boone at St. Mary's or Dot Killian at dot@providencepres.org or 803-517-7870.

Judith Dixon is the site coordinator and the pastor is the Rev. Ronnie Baxter. The Rev. Sam McGregor Jr. is pastor of Allison Creek.
