What you need to know in order to cast your ballot

WHEN TO GO: Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. Your best bet if you don't want to wait too long: Avoid going first thing in the morning, around lunch time or after 5 p.m.

WILL IT RAIN? Maybe. There's a better chance early in the morning, with showers tapering off by mid-morning. But don't let a little rain keep you from the polls.

WHAT TO TAKE: Your voter registration card and driver's license, just in case.

WHAT NOT TO TAKE: Campaign-related clothing or materials.

STRAIGHT-PARTY VOTING: In South Carolina, it does apply to president and to all other partisan offices on the ballot. A straight party vote does not, however, include school board and other non-partisan candidates or questions.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM: Report voter intimidation or fraud to the Justice Department at 800-253-3931, the U.S. attorney's office at 803-929-3052 or to the S.C. office of the FBI at 803-551-4200.
