Chester man sentenced to 50 years in '05 killing

A registered sex offender from Chester County was sentenced to 50 years in prison after being found guilty of killing a neighbor in 2005, 6th Circuit Solicitor Doug Barfield said Tuesday.

A jury convicted Casey R. Perkins, 37, of killing a 57-year-old neighbor with his bare hands in her home on Aug. 27, 2005. The victim, Judith Sharon Hinson, was found half-naked and bleeding next to her bed. The Chester County coroner said Hinson died from a severed aorta.

Perkins was living a few houses away from Hinson with his mother on DeBruhl Road north of Chester at the time.

After a weeklong trial, a jury convicted Perkins on Saturday of killing Hinson, Barfield said. Perkins was sentenced to 50 years in prison without the possibility of parole, he said.

"The cause of death was particularly gruesome," Barfield said. "The trial included a lot of video and audio tape interviews with Perkins that were played for the jury."

Perkins did not take the stand in his own defense.

Hinson's two daughters, who were present at the trial, were satisfied with Perkins' sentence, Barfield said.
