A young girl was killed in Lancaster County on Saturday after being hit by a car, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
A 1-year-old girl reportedly walked into the path of a 1999 Nissan Infiniti as it was backing up and was hit. Troopers say the accident happened at 1:24 p.m. on a private drive about 3 miles south of Lancaster, although no street address was released.
The girl was initially taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Springs Memorial Hospital, said Lance Cpl. Tony Keller with the Highway Patrol. She was later airlifted to a Charlotte hospital, where she died.
The name of the girl has not been released. Because the child died in Charlotte, Lancaster County Coroner Mike Morris said Sunday his office is waiting to receive the case from the Mecklenburg medical examiner’s office. The examiner handling the case was not available Sunday.
