Driver’s excuse for crash in York: 'I’m drunk'

A driver had a straightforward excuse for why he got into an accident outside a York home this week. He told the homeowner he was drunk.

A man on Church Street told police he heard a loud crash outside his house, then discovered that a dark blue Chevrolet Caprice had plowed through his mailbox and trash can and was sitting in his front yard. The driver, a man with dreadlocks estimated to be in his late teens or 20s, reportedly stepped out of the car, looked at the homeowner and exclaimed, “Oh, well, I’m drunk.”

Having said that, the man got back in the car and drove away.

York police did not locate the driver or the car. Damage to the home’s mailbox was estimated at $50.
